The other day I saw an article go viral on Facebook. In the span of a few hours, friend after friend after friend passed it along with worried warnings to all dog owners.
The title of the article read “No Ice Water For Dogs…Please Read ASAP“. So of course I read it. Then I promptly freaked out because we’ve been giving our Quinley ice since she was a puppy.
But my inner voice, you know the one I’m talking about, right? The voice that is always, no-matter-what 100% right, told me there was something fishy about the article. So I reached out to my vet friend Stacey to see what she knew. Sure enough she told me the article was a sham.

Yep, it’s complete falsehood. So if you read the article and believed it, there’s no need to worry, ice will not kill your dog. In fact, here’s one of many articles de-bunking this scary myth.
Now whether someone purposely wrote the article to mess with people or whether they’re just a miss-informed pet owner thinking they were doing the right thing, this message has been going around the Internet for several years now.
What a shame. So much unnecessary worry!
So I’m doing my part to set the record straight. Let’s try to permanently remove this misinformation by sharing the truth with as many people as possible.
If you’d like to help, please pass this post along to hopefully prevent anymore pointless stress.
Thanks for stopping by!
A much better topic to go viral would be NEVER to leave your dogs in parked cars, right? So silly that something untrue would get so much attention. Glad to see the record is getting set straight! 🙂
YES Erika…in fact that topic is on my list to write about. I know it’s been written about a million times over, but I’m still shocked at how many people leave their animals in cars when it’s WAY to hot. What are they thinking???
No idea! But I wish Florida would follow in North Carolina’s footsteps and legalize breaking windows to free dogs trapped inside. I would probably do it anyways, but it’d be nice not to get in trouble for doing the right thing!
